Selecting a contact lens practitioner is the most important aspect of your decision to wear contact lenses. Contact lenses are medical devices that are placed directed onto your cornea and must be properly fit and evaluated. In the fast-changing world of contact lens technology, it is important that your optometrist keep current with the best materials and choices for the healthiest match between your eye and your contacts. All of our doctors at Visual Edge are well-trained and keep up-to-date on contact lenses advancements.
There are numerous measurements and considerations that are required when wearing contact lenses that are not part of your annual comprehensive eye exam. Considerations such as your general health, allergies, lens material, corneal health, eyelid health, lacrimal health, corneal topography, spectacle prescription, and visual needs must be taken into account. For these reasons, a contact lens exam is separate from your routine eye exam and a contact lens prescription expires after one year. Each lens must fit properly in order to be safe for your ocular surface, which is a unique and specific environment that changes over time. A contact lens prescription is separate from your glasses prescription and is required for each type of contact lens you might use. Please inform our scheduling staff if you would like to include a contact lens exam in addition to your routine eye exam appointment.

In some instances, special visual needs (such as presbyopia or keratoconus) demand specialty contact lenses. Our doctors are proficient in specialty contact lens fittings for complicated eyes and receive referrals from outside offices for their expertise & experience. Please note that contact lens exams are separate from routine eye exams. This is especially true for specialty fits as each lens is customized to your eye.
